7 Boots Every Mom Needs This Fall (Ankle, Knee High, Cowboy & More)

7 Boot Styles That Go With Everything

These are the 7 boot styles I’ve collected over the last couple of falls, and they go with literally everything. Dresses, skirts, sweaters, all of it. Below is each one, what I look for when I buy a pair, and how I like to wear it.

1. Brown Leather Ankle Boots (Botines)

These are the ones I reach for most. A good pair of brown ankle boots works with almost any outfit, from early fall into spring.

What I look for: a side zipper so they slip on fast, a low block heel, and a cushioned insole for long days.

How I wear them: with a flowy midi skirt and a cardigan.

2. Knee High Boots

Tall boots make a simple dress look more finished. I wear mine with sweater dresses all fall.

What I look for: a full-length zipper, soft suede or smooth leather, and a wide-calf option if regular sizes feel tight.

How I wear them: with a knit sweater dress that ends just above the boot.

3. Western Boots

I was late to the cowboy boot trend, and now I wear mine all the time. Once they’re broken in, they’re really comfortable.

What I look for: a slightly pointed toe, a stacked heel under 2 inches, and leather (real or good faux) that softens with wear.

How I wear them: with a floral maxi dress or a denim skirt.

4. Rain Boots

For rainy mornings and puddle jumping with the kids.

What I look for: ankle height so they’re easy to pull on, a grippy sole, and a fun color.

5. Shearling Boots or Snow Boots

On cold mornings I live in shearling boots like UGGs. They’re warm and easy to slip on. Just keep in mind that classic suede shearling boots aren’t made for slush or deep snow. If you get real snow where you live, a waterproof snow boot is the better pick.

What I look for: a warm lining, a non-slip sole, and “waterproof” in the listing for snow boots.

6. Combat Boots

Chunky, comfortable, and easy to move in, which matters when I’m running after my kids at the park.

What I look for: a lug sole for grip, a side zipper, and a lightweight build.

How I wear them: with a floaty skirt and an oversized sweater.

7. Heel or Platform Boots

This is my dressier pair, for date nights and special occasions.

What I look for: a block heel or platform instead of a thin heel, and a padded footbed.

How I wear them: with a slip dress and a long coat.

Where I’d Start

If you’re starting from scratch, get the brown ankle boots first. They go with the most, and you can add the others over time like I did.

Which style are you adding this fall? Tell me in the comments, and save this to your fall fashion board for later.
